Assistant Language Tutor in Modern Languages (Spanish)

University of Birmingham – School of Languages, Cultures, Art History and Music

Grade – 6

Salary – Full time starting salary is normally in the range £26,495 to £28,936. With potential progression once in post to £32,548 a year.

The Department of Modern Languages is looking to appoint an Assistant Language Tutor in Spanish. The position is a fixed-term appointment.

The successful candidate will have: a degree or equivalent relevant to teaching area; the expertise to teach in the areas specified in the job particulars; fluent written and spoken English.

The post-holder will be expected to teach courses predominantly in Spanish language, through allocated seminars and language classes, so that the Department’s teaching objectives are met.  Teaching on Institution-wide Language courses through the Languages for All sub-section within the Department will also be required.  The post holder will teach within a clear and established teaching programme, set by the academic responsible for the programme.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview and present early August 2018.

Presentation: to prepare a 10-minute (max.) presentation in Spanish showing how you would prepare a 50-minute class for Year 1 (post-A-Level) Undergraduates in Spanish speaking and/ or listening. Please bring a copy of the lesson plan on paper to share with the panel.
