The 19th Annual WISPS Conference will be held at the The Institute of Modern Languages Research, School of Advanced Study, London, on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 November 2018. This year marks the twentieth anniversary of WISPS and we would like to celebrate one of our founding members, Emeritus Professor Dorothy Severin, AOB, who will be one of our keynote speakers.

WISPS organizes annual conferences to act as a focus for all those in Great Britain and Ireland researching into fields such as anthropology, geography, history, linguistics, literature, politics and audio, film, intermedial, theatre and performance studies, among others, within and outside the gender frame and within Luso-Hispanic cultures. WISPS also provides a wide network of trans and cis women researchers interested in feminist, gender and queer studies in a challenging but informal forum in which these issues and work-in-progress can be discussed. The 19th Annual Conference will focus on archetypes old and new, from symbols and themes to settings and characters. In the title we make reference to the archetype of the matchmaker paying homage to the work of both Prof. Severin and visual artist Paula Rego, whom we thank for generously allowing us to use her artwork. We welcome submissions exploring not only well-developed but also developing archetypes and their function in communities in flux.

CALL FOR INDIVIDUAL PAPERS, POSTERS AND PANELS

Proposals are invited for individual papers of 20 minutes or for panels, consisting of three papers of 20 minutes, on any area of research relating to any of the cultures of Spain, and Latin American and Lusophone Studies.
